I Want Real Imperfections and All, Not a Simulacrum

So Artificial Intelligence-generated (AI) images are all the rage now, and it’s only going to get worse.

I’m going to skip the society-damaging and weighty possibilities of deep-fakes, where one can morph your kid’s face onto an AI-generated nude photo or film clip, doing what nude bodies often do. But we all know that the darling little children at your kid’s middle or high school would never do this to your little darlings, right?

Truly, the possibilities are devastating and dangerous. But there’s plenty of coverage of this in the news and other media right now, and I urge you to go there in order to learn how to protect your kids as best as you can.

I’m going to complain about something more mundane.

When I’m viewing images for the purpose of enjoying the female form, I really prefer the real-life female form, imperfections and everything. The real thing is what’s sexy. Her smile, her face, her eyes, her body, her pose- the whole enchilada. Whether smoldering, coquettish, or just plain candid, nothing beats the real thing.

AI is getting better and better by the minute. The above image is a pretty good rendering (and she’s a hot simulacrum after all), but in cases where there’s any doubt, a good zoom-in will betray the image as fake.

Skin smoothness and lack of texture is one tell, although many people process their real photos through excessive filters, resulting in similar smoothed airbrushed fakeness, as I’m sure you’ve all seen on Instagram or elsewhere.

One of the best tells, currently, is zooming in on the hands and fingers. AI still lacks good rendering there, but give it five minutes, and that’ll change.

You’ll note the above image is cropped right at the hand level, likely a conscious choice by the creator. But if you look at the thumb in the extreme lower-right corner, it’s really obvious. See? She’s fake!

So I’ll get off my soapbox now, but please stop it with the fake images of the female form. Yes, I know I’m ranting into the wind, and this will not happen. And yes, I know it will grow exponentially.

But if I wanted a cartoon, I would go check out anime or hentai, neither of which I am really into.

Give me the real thing. Please.
